SUMMER-salting Into The FALL

10/5/16

It has been FAR too long since I posted an update! It’s just that time of year when time seems to fly by-  kids are back in school, Halloween is looming ominously for all those with costume anxiety, and Christmas will be here “before we know it”.  My attentions have recently been absorbed by my first gig as Costume Designer for a local professional production of Vanya, Sonia, Masha, and Spike.  I’ve been privileged to work with designers for years as an actor, I was thoroughly pumped to be making the leap from lump of clay to potter.  I’ll write more on this later, just wanted to explain my absence! Now that the show has opened to rave reviews (get tickets HERE if you’re close to the Grand Strand) I’m back to talk about the costuming project I’ve had going on for 28 years called MY LIFE.

October has ushered in a teensy bit of coolness in the air, but the humidity isn’t giving up that easily… Here’s a look book of the past months’ around town styles in my busy little life.  Look out for another podcast recommendation post coming soon!

Starting out with my “Getting Shit Done But In Public” Look.  I can accomplish all things (even an 8 am production meeting) with iced coffee.

Mustard tee, yoga leggings, and bag are all by Mossimo.  Scarf- Urban Outfitters, Sandals- Madden Girl

I was pretty pumped to bust back out my favorite fall ASOS dress! Paired it with my summery platforms for a smooth seasonal transition.

Just another blogger posing on a brick wall, y’all.  These thrifted cutoffs were such a great find.  People always talk about how hard it is to find plussize things at Goodwill but and it definitely can be, but when it’s good, it’s goooood.

Call it laziness, call it what you will, I both die for and live in T-shirt dresses.  I own this Mossimo one from Target in black as well and they get weekly wear. Bowler hat is H&M and sandals are Tommy Hilfiger.

Torrid’s casual baseball tee take on the classic little black dress is another fall-into-summer staple I can’t stop putting on my body.  The heavy knit shows no bra lines and pairs well with Old Navy lace-up flats.  I’m dying over the ballet theme I’ve seen on the runway lately.

A simple look for a work day around town! Ribbed peplum top from a Portland boutique, shorts are Old Navy, bag by Mossimo and Madden Girl sandals.

Here are those same shoes, again! I guess I never really grew out of that teenager phase where you want to wear the same items or eat the same foods EVERYday… or is that a toddler phase?  Anywho, the white boho top and jeans look is always a safe bet! Top and jeans were both ordered on Poshmark.

I have been checking the weather everyday since I got these Torrid overalls.  It still wasn’t cool enough this day, but I couldn’t wait any longer! Paired with an old-as-the-hills Old Navy peasant top for my favorite color scheme ever, magenta and black.

3rd day hair = big bun time! Giving a simple look a few vintage details can instantly get you that “retro chic” vibe.  Thrifted green babydoll dress, vintage scarf, Versona tassel necklace and So Danca ballroom T-straps.

I got the evil eye from some old bitty when I wore this to church. Maybe I’ll wear again next Sunday? White denim vest is from Belk, paired with an American Eagle sundress and Bass boots.

If you’re shaped like me and looking for a new brand to shop, I can’t recommend ASOS CURVE enough.  Their clothes (like this romper) are high quality and always flattering.  Worn with Bass boots again and an Etsyshop scarf.

Took it closer to my natural hair color for a little autumn switch up.  Comfy but polished with some 90’s flair in thrifted Victoria’s Secret and Liz Claiborne.

Finally, how fab are these Dolce Vita booties?! I cannot get enough fringe.  Oldie but goodie sheer plaid dress is layered over denim cutoffs.
